Blindfold Challenge

Today, I attended my son’s school so he could serve me with tea and toast.

This sounds very simple.

However, J is blind.  Simple life skills become more of a challenge when you cannot see.

To make you realise how challenging it can be, I am throwing down the gauntlet and asking each of you to try it for yourself.

The Blindfold Challenge

Step 1:   Choose a simple everyday task:

  • Make some toast
  • Butter some bread
  • Make a sandwich
  • Feed your dog
  • Hit a ball at the driving range
  • Pull a pint
  • Eat your meal (try Bolognese)
  • Paint your nails
  • Brush your teeth
  • Wash the dishes
  • Load the dishwasher
  • Walk (with someone to help guide you) to the local shop

The list is endless and you can be as imaginative as you wish to be.

Step 2:  Wear a blindfold.

3:  Make it count.   The funding for life skills training is limited.  Some charities try to fill the gap but rely hugely on donations.  So as you take part and raise awareness, you can also raise funds to help children with no vision to get the support they need with life skills training by donating to a charity for the blind.  We have chosen Blind Children UK to donate to.

#Blindfoldchallenge – Guidelines

  • Choose the activity
  • Get a friend to video you doing it
  • Make a small donation to a charity for the blind.
  • Share your video on social media with #blindfoldchallenge
  • Nominate a friend and keep the challenge going.

Our Donation:

We have done three challenges in our home this evening and have donated £30 to Blind Children UK – the charity offering the life skills training to my son but who need further funds to continue this invaluable support.  In the message box on the donation page, we have added “We did the blind fold challenge” so they know why the donation is being made.
